The Different Types of Terpenes

Terpenes are strong, chemical substances possessed by certain plants to ward off herbivores and attract the insects that feed on them. Terpenes serve as the protection of certain plants in order to keep bacteria, mold, and fungus away.

Terpenes are found not in all species of plants but mostly on the Cannabaceae family. It goes without saying that certain plant species have great concentrations of terpenes in it. Terpenes are organic substances that are being studied today due to their medicinal effects.

Types of Terpenes

As much as there are different species of plants known to man, there are many types of terpenes that can be extracted from them as well. Some of the most common types of terpenes are listed below, along with a short description of each.

1. Myrcene

Myrcene is the most abundant type of terpene, which is why it is also the one used for recreational purposes. They say that myrcene is the one that’s responsible for the cough lock among recreational users of this essential oil. Scientific research is being carried out on the effect of myrcene up to this date.

2. Humulene

Humulene is a form of terpene that is believed to induce relaxation and sleep. It is found in most hops and other plants. It is believed that this substance has been used for many years to treat digestive disorders, insomnia, depression, delirium, anxiety, and nervousness. Humulene isn’t recognized by medicine just yet. But there are molecular derivatives of this substance that has been proven to be anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and even anticancer. The key is to take them at reasonable doses for them to be effective. Further study on this terpene is promising, as it may have the potential to treat multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease.

3. Linalool

Many studies, both in vivo and in vitro, show that linalool can be used as treatment or tumors. It also has sedative, anti-convulsant, anti-depressant, anti-nociceptive, and anti-depressant, effects. Further studies also show that it has anti-oxidative, anti-microbial, hepatoprotective, and neuroprotective properties as well. However, it isn’t established yet if these effects can be obtained through consumption.

4. Limonene

The medical effects of limonene are concentrated on anabolism and wound healing. It can also reduce stress, inflammation, depression, oxidation, viral infections, and spasms. Preliminary research also shows that limonene may have anti-tumor and anti-cancer effects, mainly because it is converted into perillyl alcohol when ingested. In Brazil, limonene is already being used as a drug against cancer, more particularly a brain tumor.

5. Alpha Pinene

Alpha Pinene promises to have anti-tumor and anti-metastatic effects if taken in very high doses. It may also have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-allergic effect on the bronchial drug. Alpha Pinene is easily oxidized into myrtenol and pinocarveol when it gets in contact with air. This is why it has found a few other industrial processes as well. Alpha Pinene is very abundant in conifers.

6. Beta Pinene

Beta Pinene, when taken at 100 mg/kg, proposes good sedative and antidepressant effect in mice during lab experiments. It also has an antidepressant effect, effectively reversing the anti-nociceptive effects of morphine in the same manner as naloxone. This proves that it’s an agonist of the micro-opioid receptors.

These are the most common types of terpenes and if you’re looking for these terpenes for sale, you might have to look further into the different legitimate companies that extract them for medicinal or recreational purposes.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Sealing an Asphalt Paving Driveway

As a business owner or homeowner, you want to keep your asphalt driveway in excellent condition. This will help keep the surface safe for pedestrians and drivers and improve your curb appeal. A crack filler may take care of minor cracks and a degreaser may be able to get rid of an oil spot. However, what if you can stop these issues from happening?

It’s an investment to have a commercial or residential asphalt paving surface. Of course, you want to protect it as much as possible. You do not want potholes or cracks to ruin it. You do not want other environmental settings to affect its integrity. Today, we’re going to talk about the benefits and drawbacks of sealing your asphalt paving driveway.

Is it really worth hiring paving contractors Perth to reseal your driveway? Let’s find out.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Sealing an Asphalt Driveway Paving

An asphalt driveway sealer is a coal tar layer that covers the surface and offers protection from thawing ice, freezing, chemicals, and harmful UV rays. The benefits include:

  • Easily applies to a parking lot or driveway
  • Protects against oil stains, chemicals, and water
  • The cheapest way of resurfacing and fixing asphalt
  • Improves the lifespan of a concrete or blacktop parking lot or driveway

The disadvantages of sealants include:

  • The process needs particular temperature and weather conditions
  • They have to be reapplied every several years

When to Apply Sealcoating?

The ideal step for any asphalt surface or driveway you’ll like to protect is asphalt seal coating. There are several indications that it is time for seal coating. This includes:

  • Potholes
  • Warping to the surface
  • Pools of water after the rain
  • Discoloration from UV rays
  • Cracking

How Does Paving Gets Damaged?

You want your driveway to appear great and your property to have curb appeal. In addition to that, you do not want to roll an ankle or lose a tire because of potholes on the surface.

However, how can asphalt paving get damaged? Here are several factors to consider:

  • Poor Drainage

One of the biggest threats to your asphalt driveway is water. Poor drainage can result in standing water sitting on top of it. The water leaks into the material and can cause cracks and potholes. It’s the similar way you see erosion in a river bed or well-watered garden over time.

  • Time

You are perhaps already seeing indications of wear and tear damage if you do not have a brand new asphalt driveway. Asphalt driveways could last for more than 2 decades. However, their lifespan varies on a couple of factors. This includes the soil under it, routine maintenance, and protective barriers.

  • UV Rays

It’s common knowledge that UV rays can harm your skin. However, they can also damage your blacktop. They’ve got a lot of similar effects. UV rays can weaken the bonds in the materials and dry out your asphalt. This will lead to fissures and cracks over time. Luckily, sealcoating can help prevent this issue from happening in the first place.
